REGGAE MUSIC Jamaican music is and always will be rooted in the African experiences and culture. From the time of the middle passages to the early beginnings of Caribbean culture, traditional call and response, folkloric work songs have been the spiritual force and soul of the African people fighting for independence and freedom. So upon independence, a revolutionary awakening and enlightenment quickly brought forth an army of great writers, poets, innovators, visionaries and righteous leaders working for the progress of Jamaica's future; setting the landscape for the folkloric music that is the roots and culture of a people representing the heartbeat of a continent fighting on the frontiers of the world. These tenets would be the major spiritual structure and guidance of an island born from that holy crest. From the nyabinghi genius of Count Ossie to the Royal Jamaican Jazz Society of Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, up to the soundscape brilliance of the mighty Lee "Scratch" Perry, Jamaican reggae music is truly the call and response of our forefathers, elders and freedom fighters who have fought and died for the independence under the injustices of slavery and oppression for the African people worldwide. The heartbeat is truly nyabinghi....and nyabinghi is Jamaica.... and Jamaica is and always will be Africa at its royal best. And as in the words of the great King Haile Selassie........ "Until there is freedom around the world.....there will be no peace. Until all doctrines that oppress and enslave a people under the guise of freedom is abolished, there will be no peace. So until that day arises....from that slumber of sleep....even then, the work still continues.... even then, the struggle goes on....now and until the end of time."
